The traditional PUCRS building 7, which has housed the School of Communication, Arts and Design (Famecos) for 51 years, will inaugurate its new spaces this Wednesday (14). The ceremony will be attended by the University's rector, Brother Evilázio Teixeira, the dean of Famecos, Rosângela Florczak, professors, students and other members of the university community.

The initiative aims to modernize and expand the building's spaces, in addition to promoting improvements that favor learning processes. Both the on-site undergraduate courses in Advertising and Propaganda, Journalism, Audiovisual Production, Design and Business Communication and the Graduate Program in Social Communication will benefit from the renovated lobby.

“The new spaces seek to bring students closer to the Creative Industry, consolidating it as one of the School’s central principles. Furthermore, they reflect PUCRS’ commitment to becoming an innovative university, aligned with the demands of a new society,” the dean points out.

The new spaces include the Creative Industry Room, the Freezone, a podcast studio, a gourmet space and additional areas for studying and socializing, all designed to support and stimulate academic interaction. The Creative Industry Room, for example, was designed to foster integration and project development, and has high-performance computers to support the activities of students and external professionals. The lobby, now expanded, offers an ideal environment for exchanging ideas and presentations, as well as exhibitions such as art and photography.

The Freezone is a versatile room, available for various uses and will be available to students for individual or group work. It is a free studio, with acoustic insulation and the necessary equipment for recordings. All students at the university will be able to take advantage of the multipurpose spaces. The podcast studio is the result of a partnership with an external company, which will allow students to participate in practical activities and integration with the market directly in the teaching environment.

“We want to provide students with more flexible and versatile environments. Our area is very dynamic and changes all the time, so we need to constantly change the spaces. We have to adapt the building to the people, not the people to the building. It is a project based on multiple spaces, because nowadays college is not just a classroom, it is much more”, highlights Rosângela.

This is the first structural renovation to be carried out on the building and has been underway since August of last year, as provided for in the University's 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. In addition to the classrooms, a section of the garden in front of the building that was previously closed off was also opened. The green area has become a meeting space for the academic community, with benches to sit on and a new bicycle rack.

Resonate Project

During the ceremony, the Ressoa project will be launched, a partnership between Famecos and the Institute of Culture that aims to stimulate cultural and artistic integration in the academic community. Artists and bands from the music scene of Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region will have the opportunity to perform and promote their work. The first musical performance will take place at 11 am, with singer Izmália, and later, at 18 pm, the same artist will perform exclusively.
